Nurit Wilde

In an interview July 2007 with Geoff Edgers in the Boston Globe,
Nurit Wilde says: “I was born in Israel and left for Czechoslovakia
in 1950 when I was five years old.” The State of Israel, however was
declared in 1948. So she was probably born in Palestine (British Mandate).

Later Nurit moved to Canada and went to college.
In Toronto she met Denny Doherty and Cass Elliot
(later the Mamas and the Papas) trough Zal Yanofsky
of the Lovin’ Spoonful. But he was like a brother to her.
He was in her bed, but didn’t sleep with her.

This information comes from the book: Canyon of Dreams:
The Magic and the Music of Laurel Canyon.
Written by: Harvey Kubernik.

Somewhere in the sixties Nurit moved to Los Angeles.
Took up photography and worked in the lighting booth
at the Wiskey a Go Go. The place to meet a lot of rock stars.
She was with David Crosby, got pregnant, had an abortion.
And was with John Philips and the scene around the Mamas and the Papas.

Took acid with Mama Cass, but didn’t like grass and found a lot
of Laurel Canyon people too apolitical.

Through Peter Tork, whom she knew from his earlier
folk music days in New York, she met Michael Nesmith.

Nurit with son Jason Nesmith (mid seventies).

Nurit, Michael and Jason (1995).
